We're ready for the last module of didactics of this edition: the workshop led by Chiara Monteleone with Federico Giaimo and Lesley Ann Culla, in partnership with OpenZone by Zambon.
OpenZone is the scientific campus dedicated to Health on the doorstep of Milano, created by the chemical-pharmaceutical company Zambon to consolidate its way of thinking and experiencing research. Today OpenZone is home to 27 Zoners, including some of the foremost biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and advanced gene therapy companies, all with a strong penchant for innovation. Conceived to build bridges between different skill sets, languages, and worlds, it is a place where research is transformed into an enterprise, to improve treatments and people’s quality of life.
The course aims to give a thorough and practical overview of a Service Design process, guiding students from context analysis to concept generation with special attention to the feasibility, sustainability, and innovation level of the proposed solution. The methodology will be applied to real client challenges thanks to the partnership. The workshop aims at generating new service ideas on 3 specific OpenZone objectives providing solutions & services to serve the business that inhabits it, the campus itself, and the whole nearby community. It revolves around three specific topics: mobility, food, B2B services addressing different targets & actors of the OpenZone ecosystem.
The three briefs are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations:
1. Virtuous food lifecycle: services & solutions to enable a sustainable & collaborative usage of food resources & infrastructures
2. Green mobility: solutions to improve the mobility of the zoners & the whole near community, fostering collaboration & optimization of resources
3. Zoners booster: New B2B services to enable the zoners in their everyday work life & promote collaboration & adoption of new ways of working.
Therefore, the concepts will explore different scenarios to provide information, services, strengthen the relationship and trust between the campus, the businesses, and the whole community with special attention to the economic, environmental and social impact of the solutions. The workshop is structured according to 3 macro-phases of work:
1. Context & user research
2. Concept development & modeling
3. Service presentation
At the end of the module, students will understand the basics of developing a service, providing tangible, sustainable & applicable solutions to real clients’ problems. They will be able to test themselves in the processes of gathering information, modeling insight, framing the solution, and identifying & designing the appropriate communication to promote it. Providing moments to reflect about revenue & cost, impact, and innovation level of their solution - to increase personal awareness and criticism. We with good work to all our students for this final module, and can't wait to see the results.
