Today started the pill on rapid prototyping with Marc Fortuny. In this module, students will face the prototyping phase of the service design process, deepening the why and the how of the service prototype. To do so, Marc firstly provided them with an overview of existing prototyping techniques (desktop walkthrough, experience prototyping, role-playing, just to name a few) typically adopted by service designers. During the three days, participants will have the chance to test them, understanding what does it mean to take a project from the idea to the pre-implementation phase, using the prototyping framework, and walking through the theory with a hands-on approach.
The first day saw the mainly practical part of the first round of experience service prototyping. The second day will see the mainly theoretical part of understand & take conscious decisions. The last day will focus on prototyping to explore, experiment & communicate, merging practice with theory. After these three days, participants will know rapid prototyping methods and tools, the capacity to identify the most suitable method or tool for the situation to be prototyped, and available resources to create the most appropriate prototype. They will also have the capacity to understand what an iteration is and how to plan it, as well as to evaluate and prioritize the prototyping iterations results. They will be able to make conscious decisions during the whole process and, in the end, make the service evolve through prototyping.
Students worked on the concepts ideated during the last pill with the same teams, to start prototyping an existing concept and focus on its development and evolution by prototyping.
